Create Font of your own Handwriting

Ever wanted to make text on your PC to appear just like your handwriting but never found a font that would satisfy??? No worries... Here I'll show you how to get a font of your own, personal Handwriting...
To begin with, head on to Font Capture & click on "Print Template". Download the font template available in PDF/GIF file formats... Print this sheet & write on it with your own handwriting as directed... After writing scan the sheet at a resolution of 200dpi or more (the more the better)... Save the scanned file in JPEG/PNG format & upload it on the website... Name the font properly so that you can identify the font you created... You can download your font and use it as you wish!!!   Simple isn't it??!!

The quality of the font depends upon how you fill the template sheet, so you should keep a few things in mind. In any piece of text, the baseline is the imaginary line on which all the letters sit... The upper case letters fit between baseline & 1 (in the below image) - which gives the cap height, whereas most of the lowercase letters are between baseline & 2 - which gives the x-height... A few characters have ascender or descender like ’d’ & 'g' respectively, which may cross x-height...

The template has small guide marks to roughly give you an idea about how high the ascender can reach, the baseline and how low the descender can reach.. Try and keep the letters inside the top and bottom lines to prevent them from being cut off...What makes a font look different from another is how the x-height and cap height are varied... A font with uniform baseline & nearly similar ascenders and x-height will give the font a pleasant look... For making your font legible, use a black marker or gel pen... Avoid using very thin strokes throughout the font, though a few elegant fonts do have varying the stroke thickness...

After a few tries, you'll be able to get a font that nearly looks like something you have written on paper...But that isn't all you can do... You can represent alphabets using anything that you fill in the template sheet, which means you can draw certain symbols or even signatures!!! For example, in the space provided to write alphabet 'A' if you put your signature within the ascender & descender mark, when you download the font & press 'A' key on your keyboard your signature will be typed instead of letter 'A'...

Thus you can creatively draw any symbols & use'em... But just be sure that the symbols don't exceed the provided space... Getting a running  handwriting font takes time to master, for which you must start & end the characters at same height...

Now go forward and Digitalize your very own handwriting & Explore all the endless possibilities of creativity....
