HTC Sensation XL-with-Beats-Audio-full-specs-price-in-india-review-White-Android

The bigger brother of HTC Sensation XE has arrived in the form of HTC Sensation XL and it just what the same name suggests, i.e., the larger version of HTC Sensation smartphone. This would be the second Android phone from HTC which comes with Beats audio infused.

The Sensation XL will come with deeper Beats integration than the Sensation XE and the audio would be enhancing games and other audio playable files. It’s clear that HTC is trying their best to improve the overall experience but not just the music quality or video quality.

HTC Sensation XL Design & Hardware
Among the key features of HTC Sensation XL, it will have the amazing 4.7 inches large Gorilla Glass touchscreen display with a maximum resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. With multi-touch input, proximity sensor and accelerometer make the display screen jubilant. Together with that 1.5 GHz single core process and 768 MB of RAM makes it possible that the phone response time is faster to handle multiple operating altogether.

The phone supports HSPA / WCDMA connectivity providing you a downloading speed of up to 14.4 Mbps and if you find 3G data costly then you can choose over GPRS with EDGE technology for good enough data speed with low charges on 2G network.

The Bluetooth 3.0 added in this mobile phone supports FTP/OPP for file transfer wirelessly and supports A2DP for wireless stereo headset.

HTC Sensation XL Camera
The HTC mobile phones are endorsed for their camera quality and Sensation XL has got 8 mega pixel camera on the reader side with 28mm lens larger than the normal lenses. 8 mega pixel camera quality means that you would be able to record HD video at 720p easily and provided with dual LED flash supporting video recording and imaging during the low light conditions as well. No doubt that it’s a 3G mobile phone, thus it has 0.3 mega pixel camera to make video calls.

HTC Sensation XL Software Performance
Continueing the famous trends of operating system now, the Sensation XL sports the Google famous Android 2.3 Gingerbread version and combined with HTC Sense 3.5 makes it perfect HTC phone to have. And with that the Android Market Place is just click away to install the latest apps, the best apps and much more for which the Android is famous for.

HTC Sensation XL Features
As usual Android features like GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G connectivity, Bluetooth, USB support are included in this phone. A 3.5 mm audio headset jack is also included with this mobile phone. It does include 16 GB of internal memory with no expandable storage. It comes pre-installed with Dropbox app and the owner of this mobile would get 5 GB free storage as usual of 2GB to others.

The DLNA feature added in this mobile phone supports wireless streaming of media from your phone to DLNA enabled devices like TV or computer. The playback of music formats like aac, amr,.mp3, .wav, .wma (Windows Media Audio 9), SP-MIDI and recording formats like .amr, .aac, .mp3, .wav, .wma are supported by this handset. You can also play h.263, h.264, MPEG 4 and wmv videos.

HTC-Flyer-Tab-review-full-specs-price-in-india

Hardware
Thinking back to the first time we saw the Flyer in person -- at a pre-MWC briefing back in February -- we have to say this tablet didn't make the happiest of first impressions. It's a weighty old thing (420 grams / 14.8 ounces) that looked thick even before we laid eyes on the subsequent iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab super-slimsters. In fact, we had a 7-inch Galaxy Tab on hand and the Flyer was instantly humbled by the slicker, lighter, and far more refined slate from Samsung. HTC's choice of a tri-color palette also dashes any chances of the Flyer appearing sophisticated. The white plastic elements at the top and bottom don't really blend in well with either the grey aluminum shell or the black bezel around the screen. Adding insult to injury, the lower one of those plastic inserts actually protrudes from the body, giving an already chunky tablet some extra junk in the trunk.

You'd hope, after such an inauspicious start, that form has been sacrificed at the altar of function here and we can happily report that to be the case. Though we found the Flyer's weight unwieldy at first, we adapted to it over time and would now actually describe it as reassuring. A big portion of that heft comes from the tablet's unibody metal enclosure -- one uninterrupted chunk of aluminum wraps around most of the Flyer's rear and sides, protecting it from bumps and scrapes and lending it an excellent feel of rigidity and stoutness. If we had a prize for ruggedness among tablets not specifically designed for rough terrain, the Flyer would win it with, ahem, flying colors. That's not mere rhetoric, either -- we were clumsy enough to drop our review unit onto a cement floor and you'll spot the resulting scuffs on its back in our hands-on gallery.

The Flyer's curved sides are classic HTC and help make it easy and comfortable to handle. You might end up with stronger forearms from the effort of holding it up, but you won't be causing yourself injury from awkward or annoying ergonomics. Taking it out for a day-long stroll around London, we found this slate a joy to tote around in one hand or -- as unbelievable as it may sound -- stashing it in a pocket. Contrary to any of the 8.9-,9.7- or 10.1-inch tablets that are currently staking a claim as the mainstream's favorite form factor, the 7-inch Flyer is truly portable enough to carry around without either a dedicated carrying case or some other pouch to slot it into. Even so, HTC has decided to bundle a sparkly white case in the retail package, which is of an above-average quality, fits snugly around the tablet, and provides an all-important holder for the Magic Pen accessory. Some might (rightly) argue that they'd rather have a cheaper tablet than more goodies in the box, but the Flyer's case provides an extra layer of protection and a very neat way to transport it together with the stylus. The flap is kept closed by nature's own awesome technology: magnets.

It's ironic to think that this fatty of the tablet world would offer more convenience on the move than all the supermodel skinny slates, but we've found ourselves slowly falling in love with the Flyer's screen size. 7 inches feels like our perfect bowl of porridge -- neither too small for satisfactory web browsing nor too large to use discreetly. In particular, thumb-typing on the software keyboard in portrait orientation is an absolute dream. This shouldn't come as a surprise if you've read our coverage of Samsung's original Galaxy Tab, as we also praised that 7-incher for having the ideal size for thumbing your way through missives. An additional benefit in HTC's case is that our concern about its Android onscreen keyboard being a little cramped is entirely dispelled by the enlargement to the Flyer's proportions. It is now an unqualified delight to use and our typing speed on this tablet was matched only by the device's responsiveness and preparedness for more input. An additional nod of approval should be directed at HTC's prediction algorithm, which exhibited more intelligence than we're used to seeing and almost always knew the word we were trying to articulate before we were done writing it out.

When strapped with a 3G radio (compatible with T-Mobile in the USA), the Flyer provides a very intriguing potential usage scenario: it can actually serve as your smartphone replacement. Admittedly, the "phone" part of that equation can't be readily substituted, but hear us out. Our daily smartphone use revolves almost entirely around having a data connection and most of our communications are done via web services such as Google Talk, IRC, Twitter, and simple old email. Hell, the only time we remind ourselves we're still using a phone is when we send the occasional SMS, but the Flyer has a fully fledged messaging app to deal with those instances. We tried living with the Flyer in the place of a smartphone for a couple of days and, quite frankly, found little downside to it. We wouldn't yet argue abandoning the more compact and versatile smaller handsets, but we definitely feel the 7-inch form factor has more to offer than merely a stopgap device between a phone and a laptop -- circumstances exist where it will be able to usurp those stalwart devices' roles entirely, even if only for limited periods of time.

Intel Core i7-3960X-3930X-3820-Extreme-Sandy-Bridge-E-Processor-Review

The 2nd generation Intel Core i7 3000 series of processors are the first high end desktop platform CPUs that have been designed with the Sandy Bridge 32nm microarchitecture. Intel code named these 32nm processors 'Sandy Bridge-E' and we are guessing that the "E" stands for extreme. The transition to Sandy Bridge-E for the high end platform means that the LGA1366 with the Intel X58 Express chipset and Bloomfield/Gulftown processors have finally been put out to pasture. Intel announced the LGA1366 platform back in November 2008, so this is the first platform change for enthusiast users in over three years!

With the introduction of the LGA2011 socket comes new processors and Intel announced the Core i7-3960X, Core i7-3930K and the Core i7-3820. The bad news is that only the Core i7-3960X and the Core i7-3930K are available for purchase today at $990 and $555, respectively. This means that if you wanted to upgrade your system to one of these new processors it isn't going to be cheap as the entry level processor is $555 and entry level Intel LGA2011 motherboards are right around the $300 mark. Those on a budget do have a light at the end of the tunnel, though, as the Intel Core i7-3820 will be released in early Q1 2012 for right around $290. This is going to be a high-volume part number and looks to take the place of the Intel Core i7-920 that Intel originally launched for the LGA1366 platform.

The Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge-E core is built on the 32nm manufacturing processor and has a total transistor count of 2.27 Billion on a die that is just 20.8 by 20.9 mm square. The Core i7-3960X has 15MB of cache that is shared across all six cores. With a base clock of 3.3GHz and a top end Turbo clock speed of 3.9GHz, we are shocked that it has a TDP of just 130W!

Intel Sandy Bridge-E Processor Feature Details:

Up to 6 Execution Cores
Each core supports two threads (Intel Hyper-Threading Technology) for up to 12 threads
A 32-KB instruction and 32-KB data first-level cache (L1) for each core
A 256-KB shared instruction/data mid-level (L2) cache for each core
Up to 15 MB last level cache (LLC): up to 2.5 MB per core instruction/data last level cache (LLC), shared among all cores
Intel Sandy Bridge-E Supported Technologies:

Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT)
Intel Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (Intel VT-d)
Intel Virtualization Technology Intel Core i7 processor family for the LGA-2011 socket Extensions

The first time I laid my hands on the device, it seemed to fit perfectly in my hands ( I must say i have a soft spot for 7 inch devices), with a comfortable form factor and rubberised feel. The device has 5 buttons on its face and the switch on button at the top. It also has a volume rocker on the side. The devices wasn’t switched on at the time and gave me high hopes, but as soon as I switched the device on, all the hopes and expectations of finally seeing a quality Android based tablet had been dashed.

iPhone-4S-in-India-review-full-specification-latest-price

CDMA available under Airtel and Aircel

The iPhone 4S comes with a faster processor, a better camera, a smarter virtual assistant and twice the storage of its predecessor -- if you don't mind paying for it. Like the iPhone 3GS did before to the 3G, the 4S bumps the iPhone 4 down to second-class status, leaving those Apple fans who must have the best aspiring to own its decidedly familiar exterior. Apple says this is the most amazing iPhone ever. Is it? Yes, of course it is, but read on to see whether it's really worth an upgrade.

Apple iPhone 4S review

Hardware
Familiar is a good term for the exterior of the iPhone 4S. When the 4 was unveiled in the summer of 2010 it was a strikingly different design from anything else on the market -- glass on the front and back, exposed screws holding together a deliciously clean ring of stainless steel. It was kind of chunky and industrial, like a tastefully refinished factory loft -- a big contrast to the smooth and nondescript models that came before. The iPhone 4 was something truly new and, for the days and weeks after its release, just spotting one in the wild caused a sensation. It was so different that people wanted to touch and hold the thing, to see how it felt in the hand.

Few are going to go out of their way to touch and hold the iPhone 4S, but that's not to say it isn't very nice to grasp. The iPhone 4 felt like a finely crafted piece of machinery and there's no doubt this one walks in those very same footsteps. Compared to your average modern Android wunderphone the 4S feels small, dense and heavy, a very different sensation than the occasionally lighter but frequently more plasticky competition. The 4S does actually have slightly more heft than the 4, but only by carefully holding one in each hand can you notice the increase from 137 grams (4.83 ounces) to 140 (4.94 ounces).

Save for a few tweaks that even the most dedicated Appleista wouldn't be able to spot at a distance, the 4S is identical from the exterior. A few of the controls have been shifted by fractions of a millimeter and this uses the same exterior antenna layout as the CDMA iPhone 4 that hit Verizon earlier this year. Rather more significantly, though, how it works with those antennas has changed.

The iPhone 4S can now intelligently and instantly switch between those exterior antennas, in real-time, even while you're in the middle of a call. Will this successfully put to rest the iPhone's reputation as a call dropper? That we're not able to say conclusively at this time, as you really need masses of people hammering on a device to bring out its worst. ("Antennagate" didn't come to light until a few days after the iPhone 4's release.) But, in testing a Vodafone 4S against a 4 we found the 4S to be consistently one bar higher, and did a far better job of holding on to 3G data. Here in the States, our Sprint 4S kept right up with another device we had handy from the same carrier: the Nexus S 4G.

There have been a fair number of other tweaks on the inside. In fact it's safe to say Apple threw out the lot of the iPhone 4's guts and stuffed in a whole new batch, starting with the A5 processor. Yes, it's the same dual-core chip that powers the iPad 2 and, while Apple isn't saying, it's running at 800MHz -- a bit of a step down from the 1GHz it's clocked at in the tablet. RAM unfortunately stays the same, at 512MB, but maximum available storage has doubled, matching the iPod touch by maxing out at 64GB.

The other major change to the internals comes in the wireless network support. This is a quadband UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA (850, 900, 1,900, 2,100MHz) and quad-band GSM / EDGE (850, 900, 1,800, 1,900MHZ) device, while also offering dual-band CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (900, 1,900MHz). All that naturally means you'll be getting 3G data on nearly every carrier in these lands and abroad, though those providers are still being cagey about just how much success you'll have at porting the 4S from one to another -- at least until the unlocked model shows up in November. There's no 4G on offer, though AT&T's 14.4Mbps HSPA+ service will leave you feeling a bit less out of touch.

Up front is the same 3.5-inch, 960 x 640 Retina display that wowed us 16 months ago on the iPhone 4. That 326ppi density is still quite a lovely thing to behold, surely one of the highest quality panels currently available today in a phone, but in nearly a year and a half the world has moved on. Smartphones are bigger than they were in 2010 and 3.5-inches seems on the small side of average. It's a great size for those with moderately proportioned hands, and opinions certainly differ when determining what is the optimal girth for a smartphone (if, indeed, there is such a thing as optimal) but, after living with a 4.2-inch or larger device, looking at the digital world through a 3.5-inch portal feels just a bit... narrow.

Software (Siri)

Though it comes a few days after its release, the iPhone 4S ushers in the world of iOS 5. This latest revision of Apple's mobile operating system helps to clean some of the dust off of what was starting to feel a bit dated without actually changing any fundamentals. iOS 5 introduces a slew of improvements and enhancements, some minor and some rather more major. We've already posted a particularly comprehensive iOS 5 review, so we won't blather on about it any longer here except to say it's a very solid update that will make your smartphone an even more seamless, integral part of your life.

The one thing we will blather on about quite a bit more here is Siri, your own digital helper. Siri is an evolution of the Siri Virtual Assistant, a spin-off of a DARPA project called CALO. Apple bought the company in early 2010 and now that functionality is baked right into the OS. Sort of.

Siri can only be found on the iPhone 4S, a curious and seemingly arbitrary shunning of the other iOS devices. We've heard that's due to the processor demands required for voice recognition, but since you need an active data connection to use Siri we have to imagine that the heavy lifting for voice recognition is happening somewhere inside Apple's massive data center, which would seemingly allow lower-spec devices to do the same. And, since the iPad 2 is running the A5 at an even higher clock speed, there's just no good reason we can think of for putting Siri exclusively on the 4S. Let the poor girl out, we say.

Should you find yourself owning the requisite hardware to give Siri a shot, you'll probably be pretty impressed with what she can do. Of course, "she" is a characteristic bit of anthropomorphism that we'll apply to the same voice you've probably heard in a half-dozen GPS devices in the past, but still, calling her an "it" just seems a little wrong. Siri herself, though, wouldn't mind. Ask her "Are you a man or a woman?" and her response is a curt "I was not assigned a gender." We think she's just playing hard to get.

Siri can do a huge number of things, from sending texts and emails to finding restaurants and getting directions from one place to another -- things that, it must be said, could largely be done before by voice on other devices and platforms. It's really the enhanced ability to understand casually spoken English mixed in with the notion of context that sets this apart.

Let's talk about the context bit first. Say you want to send a text to your wife to remind her to pick up the dogs from boarding on the way home from work. You can just say, "Tell my wife don't forget the dogs." Siri will send your wife a message saying, "Don't forget the dogs." How does Siri know who your wife is? Well, she doesn't at first, but she'll ask, and once you tell her she'll remember -- until the end of time.

That context works in other situations, too, like receiving a text message from someone, asking Siri to check your calendar, and then just saying "Reply, I'll see you then." You don't need to say who to reply to, Siri will remember. For the first time we feel less like we're giving stiff commands to a device and more like we're actually having a conversation. That said, you can still be as commanding as you like. Siri won't mind.

Motorola-DROID-RAZR-full-specs-review-price-in-india

Also known as DROID HD

The Droid Razr feels surprisingly solid, and Motorola says that's because of the sculpted glass, the Kevlar backing, and the stainless steel chassis that holds it all together. There's even a nanotechnology coating that makes the phone splash-resistant. It stops short of being waterproof, though, so we wouldn't go swimming with it. The Kevlar backing is soft to the touch, which is a departure from the usual rough texture associated with Kevlar. The thin display is made out of sculpted Corning Gorilla Glass, which is claimed to be scratch-resistant as well.

And what a display it is. The 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display is really gorgeous in person. With its qHD resolution, images and graphics are both colorful and crisp. Motorola says the Droid Razr is the first smartphone to be able to stream HD content from Netflix.
Powering all of this, the phone has a dual-core 1.2GHz TI processor and 1GB of RAM. The result is a seamless navigational experience. We flipped through screens with speed, with no transition lag at all. We didn't notice any sluggishness when launching and multitasking between several apps, either. The Droid Razr ships with Android 2.3.5 with a Motoblur skin. It's not the prettiest skin we've ever seen, but it's not nearly as intrusive as it used to be.
The Motorola Droid Razr has a stunningly slim design.
The Droid Razr has 32GB of memory that consists of 16GB on board and a preinstalled 16GB microSD card, and it can accommodate up to 32GB microSD cards. Nested in the Kevlar backing is an 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD video capture and image-stabilization features, while sitting above the display is a front-facing HD camera for video conferencing. Thanks to Verizon, it also has support for 4G LTE along with a mobile hot-spot feature.
Motorola is definitely going after RIM with new enterprise and government-grade features in the Droid Razr. It has remote wipe, PIN lock, and what it claims is government-grade data encryption.
Other features include HDMI out, the low-power Bluetooth 4.0 that opens up a world of devices, Quickoffice for document editing, and a couple of Motorola-designed apps that promise greater interactivity with the cloud. Motocast is an app that will stream and download media to the phone from a corresponding desktop PC app, while the Smart Actions app helps to automate tasks and optimize battery efficiency. We had a little demo of Smart Actions, and it certainly has potential. For example, when it detects your home Wi-Fi network, you can set it so that it'll automatically turn your data connection off for better battery consumption.

Apple iPhone 4-now in india-at just Rs.22500-full-specs-review

Looks like finally India is in Apple’s radar.  The company launched the iPhone 4 pretty late in India but then it also launched a cheaper version of the 3GS at around Rs.19000. As you might know , the iPhone 4S is launching in India on Airtel and Aircel and now there is news that Apple might start selling a refurbished iPhone 4 in India for Rs.22500. Refurbished products or open box items are pretty common in the United States and many companies including Apple offer a discount on such products compared to brand new products. While some might confuse a refurb with a stinking , used , damaged product it is not. Apple still offers 1 year warranty on such products from the date of purchase. Also you can buy Apple Care warranty like you could for any new product.

Full-Review:
Hardware

Perhaps the most notable change with the new iPhone is the drastic industrial design overhaul -- Apple seems to have completely rethought its strategy on how the phone should look and feel, and the results are nothing if not striking.

Industrial design

In his WWDC keynote, Steve Jobs likened the design of the iPhone 4 to that of a "beautiful, old Leica camera," and as we've said before, he wasn't off the mark. Instead of hewing to the curved, plasticky, silver-bezeled look of the iPhone 3G and 3GS, the company has turned the casing and face of the device into something decidedly more detailed and sophisticated. From the design aesthetic through to the actual build process, Jony Ive and his team have reset what we expect in an iPhone, coming up with something that clearly harkens back to the retro-future Braun designs of Dieter Rams. The iPhone 4 is made up of three basic parts: two pieces of smooth, strengthened glass, and a stainless steel band which wraps around the sides, top, and bottom of the phone. The effect is clean but not simple, and Apple has added little details, like altered volume buttons (what used to be a rocker is now separated into circular clickers labeled + and -), and notches in that metal band which serve to improve radio connections (more on that in a minute). The phone is noticeably thinner than the 3GS at .37 inches compared to .48 inches, but it weighs the same 4.8 ounces, making the whole package seem tighter and denser. It feels great in your hand, with good heft, although it might take a little time to get used to the lack of a rounded back if you're coming from the 3G or 3GS.

HTC Zeta-with 2.5GHz Quad-core CPU-Android 4.0-leaked

Image and specs of the new HTC phone codenamed Zeta has surfaced. According to the sources of Engadget, this device would pack in 2.5GHz APQ8064 Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and would come with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Other specs looks similar to the HTC Edge that is rumored to be HTC’s first quad-core phone that got leaked last week. This phone is said to measure 109.8mm x 60.9mm x 9.8mm and weigh 146g.

This would come with a 4.5-inch HD 720p display similar to the HTC Rezound (Vigor), 1 GB of RAM and a 8MP auto-focus camera with dual LED flash, 1080p video capture and a 1.3MP front-facing cam. Blackberry Curve 9360 -specifications-price in india-review

The phone was previously called Curve Apollo and its features were expected to be really good, and they are. The features of BlackBerry Curve 9360 are just too good to be believed. The features of BlackBerry Curve 9360 goes like this:

Operating System
OS is something which is a primary deciding factor while purchasing a phone. The OS of BlackBerry Curve 9360 is BlackBerry OS 7.0 but the problem is this OS is used only in BlackBerry phones and this is what makes this OS a limited access OS and hence there are fewer apps available for it. The OS of BlackBerry Curve 9360 is good for the Businessmen as its fast and is really amazing.

Processor and Performance
Processor is the thing which contains a clock speed and clock speed decides the speed with which your phone is going to work. The processor of BlackBerry Curve 9360 is a super powerful 800MHz processor which can easily handle tons of work. BlackBerry Curve 9360 is hence an amazing phone with amazing processor.

Storage Capacity
Storage capacity of phones is another crucial part of the phone nowadays. Storage capacity of BlackBerry Curve 9360 is a 512MB ROM with 32GB expandable memory which is upgradeable with microSD card only. BlackBerry Curve 9360 is also having 512MB RAM.

Camera and Photography
Camera of Blackberry phones is generally a strong phone and keeping this momentum on BlackBerry Curve 9360 is studded with a 5MP camera which is also having a LED flash. BlackBerry Curve 9360’s camera is strong enough to give you crystal clear display of every photo. You can even shoot videos from these phones and that too at the VGA quality. There is no secondary camera.

Nokia 5130 XpressMusic - latest price-specifications-review-2011-price in india

 Full Nokia 5130 Review:

Design :
The Nokia 5130 is a classic Nokia design, keeping the elements of the XpressMusic family that we've always enjoyed, while retaining the company's slightly rounded candy bar aesthetic. We like that the Nokia 5130 keeps the external playback controls of the Nokia 5310, but otherwise it's a larger phone in every dimension, especially it's thickness, where the Nokia 5130 is about 50% thicker than the thin, dense Nokia 5310. The Nokia 5130 is also more than a half ounce heavier, though it's now clad mostly in glossy plastic, instead of the metal shell of the 5310. This gives the phone a lighter feel, more playful than serious, and the plastic lets Nokia use some interesting textures and embossed styles to create a very modern looking device.

We didn't like the port covers on the phone. The microUSB port and the microSD slot both have small plastic covers, and while this presents a cleaner look for the rim of the phone, these covers were difficult to open, and the USB cover especially was always in the way when we tried to plug in the USB cable.

The display on the Nokia 5130 is disappointing, especially for a Nokia device. The colors waver enough as you rotate the phone in your hand that your left and right eye will see the display slightly differently, creating a flickering effect that was unpleasant in normal use.

Though it was easy to jump into the music features, it was more difficult to navigate between features, backing in and out of various menus. The phone also seemed sluggish moving the cursor from icon to icon or tab to tab.

Calling
Calls on the Nokia 5130 sounded good, but not great. Voices sounded clean, with little distortion, but we heard a constant, high-pitched static during our conversations. The phone saw mediocre reception on T-Mobile's network in the greater Dallas area, receiving only 2 bars of service on average, which was less than some other T-Mobile phones we have on hand. Battery life was improved from the Nokia 5310, and we got more than 5 hours of talking time out of a single call. However, for a phone with so few features and slower EDGE networking, we were hoping for some truly astounding battery time with this device.

For calling features, the Nokia 5130 lags behind, with one notable standout. Thanks to a large speaker on the back of the phone, clearly meant for music playback, the phone has a nice, loud speakerphone. We were easily able to carry on a conversation in our car on speakerphone with loud driving noises all around. Otherwise, don't expect much. The phone has voice dialing, but after we went through the confusing and ambiguous Nokia training session, the Nokia 5130 still had trouble guessing our spoken commands. The phone managed to guess correctly about 30% of the time, which is pretty much useless for hands-free callers.

Messaging
For messaging fans, the Nokia 5130 comes with a nice set of features, and a couple surprises. It still lacks some of our modern favorites, especially threaded messaging, which presents text messages as a conversation. Instead, you get to see one message at a time on the Nokia 5130. For instant messaging fans, though, the Nokia 5130 includes presets for AOL, MSN and Yahoo, but also surprises with Google Gtalk service and even MySpace IM. We like seeing MySpace on more phones, as we think social networking services make a great conduit for instant messaging. For e-mail the pickings are a little more slim, as the phone comes with limited presets for setting up e-mail, but our favorite services were represented, including Gmail and Yahoo, as well as some other popular providers.

The keypad on the Nokia 5130 did not make for easy typing. Though the phone is wider than its predecessor, the keys are stuffed into a more narrow band in the middle, with a wide, sloping rim around the edge. The keys were too glossy to be comfortable, and the shiny silver paint against the matte silver backing did not make reading digits easy. If you can't touch type text messages, you'll have to find the right lighting to see the keys well.

Music
Music is the name of the game for the Nokia 5130, and as we've said many times, we like the directness of the music playback features. There are controls on the left side of the device, and as soon as you press play, the music starts. Even if you're in another app, you can press play and hear music. The Nokia 5130 also comes with good hardware for listening. Besides the necessary 3.5mm headphone jack on top, which let us use our favorite ear buds instead of the chunky buds bundled in the retail package, the phone also has a very nice speaker. Bass was lacking, but the speaker was loud and clean, able to fill a small room with sound.

Though playback was great on the Nokia 5130, the music player app itself, and the navigation between the different music screens, needs serious work. Nokia should borrow a play from Sony Ericsson's book, as the latter company's Walman phones, like the Sony Ericsson W760 that's now available on AT&T for the same price as the Nokia 5130, specialize in making it easy to navigate through the music player to easily find your tunes, create playlists and more. Not so much with the Nokia 5130, which uses a more difficult and counterintuitive menu scheme. We did like the abundance of audio control, which let us set our own equalizer and enhanced the sound with stereo widening effects. We were also enthusiastic about the fun dancing lights display, which lights up the side of the phone above the playback keys, but the lights didn't seem to dance in rhythm to the music, so the effect fell flat.

The Nokia 5130 also has a simple video player, but this is confusingly mixed in with the audio player library. You can play videos up to the QVGA resolution of the phone's display, but the Nokia 5130 can't downsize larger videos to fit the screen, which was a hassle. Even more of a hassle is the fact that the movie playback is also tied to the music buttons on the side of the phone. So, if you were watching a video earlier in the day and then you press the Play button to hear some tunes, the player picks up your last request and starts playing the movie soundtrack. Better to just skip video playback altogether than make it a disappointing, confusing feature.
